The process of aging is an undeniable fact in all of our lives, but it doesn’t have to be a reason to prevent a person from living his or her life to the fullest extent possible. As people age, sometimes they lose the ability to care for themselves in an appropriate manner.  As personal attendants, family members and friends, we cannot always be there to assure that all of our loved one’s needs are being met. At Geriatric Home Care Specialists we understand that each person is unique and individual in his or her needs.

You may find that you need assistance if you recognize any issues or changes with your loved one listed below :

• Mood changes, such as anger and frustration
• Forgetful behaviors evidenced by unpaid bills, unopened or neglected mail
• Denial of changes in their ability to care for themselves
• Inability, denial or refusal to perform routine personal hygiene tasks such as bathing or changing soiled clothing
• Foul odor in the home
• Cluttered or dirty home
• Failure to manage medications
• Missed or cancelled medical appointments
• Decrease in mobility, such as walking, climbing stairs, getting in out of bath or shower
• Unknown sources of bruising, which may indicate unreported falls
• Inability to provide for their daily needs such as shopping or picking up medications
• Spoiled or non existent food in the home
• Weight loss – which may be associated with decreased dietary or fluid intake
