Frequently Asked Questions

Do you provide services in Assisted Living Facilities and Skilled Nursing Facilities?
Yes, Geriatric Home Care Specialists provides personalized services in both Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing Facilities.

Will my health insurance cover services I receive from you?
Unfortunately, no. Health insurance including Medicare and Medicaid does not cover custodial care in the home, however, Long Term Care Insurance may cover all or parts of our services depending on the specifics of your policy. We have worked with many Long Term Care Insurance companies in order to help our clients get reimbursed and would be happy to bill your Long Term Care Insurance company for you.

What if I don't like my personal attendant?
Your satisfaction is important to us. If you feel you would like to change your personal attendant, contact your service coordinator who will be happy to immediately make that change. We will strive to find a personal attendant that is right for you. With our dedicated team of service coordinators, we make it a priority to find you the best personal attendant possible; one that fits your needs and requirements.

Are all of your personal attendants bonded and insured?
Yes, all of our personal attendants are bonded and insured. We also provide workers' compensation, liability insurance and hold a surety bond.

Who pays for the employment taxes and workers' compensation?
Our personal attendants are employees of Geriatric Home Care Specialists. As the employer, we pay all payroll taxes and workers' compensation.

What happens if my personal attendant is temporarily unavailable due to illness or an unforeseen problem?
Geriatric Home Care Specialists will always make you a priority! We will send a substitute personal attendant to your home as a temporary replacement and keep you informed of your personal attendant's return status. When selecting a temporary personal attendant, we will work hard to find someone whose skills and experience match your needs as well.

Can I call your office anytime?
Yes, absolutely. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. After hours, we have an answering service that will page an on-call supervisor for you. We will always be available to assist you in any way we can. Call your office directly or call 1-800-631-6550.

Will our personal attendant handle housekeeping and meal preparation?
Your personal attendant does assist with meal preparation and light house keeping. For a more detailed description of duties provided, please [click here]

Can my personal attendant help me with my medications?
Your personal attendant will be able to help remind you to take your medications; however, they are not allowed to physically administer any medications to you. One thing we have found to be helpful is for you to have a family member set up a pill organizer. Although your personal attendant is not allowed to load the pill organizer, they can remind you if you have forgotten to take your medication. How are your personal attendants selected?
The selection process for our personal attendants is very important to us. We believe the most important quality in a personal attendant is reliability and compassion. We carefully screen and check references on all our prospective personal attendants. Once an employment application is filled out, we begin the interview process. If the applicant passes the interview process, we check their references from past employers. At this point, we conduct a thorough personal background check, including the applicant's driving record via the DMV. Once that has been cleared, the personal attendant will attend an orientation meeting to better understand our company and policies. Geriatric Home Cares Specialists also provides continual mandatory and voluntary in-services for our personal attendants. This is done to ensure the highest quality care for all of our clients. Some of our in-service topics include: client safety, transferring techniques, dementia, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, stroke, nutrition, etc...

How is my personal care plan designed?
We believe support makes all the difference. Each personal care plan is developed with your desires in mind. We begin by talking with you and making sure we have really understood your needs. After you select the services that interest you, we are better able to create a plan that caters to your daily lifestyle. [learn more]

How do I get started in obtaining care?
It's easy... just Contact Us by phone or send us an Email. We would love to talk with you and answer any questions you might have. We want to get to know you, and if you’re interested, schedule you a no-cost, no-obligation in-home evaluation.

What is the next move?
Once you decide to move forward with our services, we will establish a personal care plan made for you. After your personal care plan is established, we begin the process of selecting a personal attendant that will meet your needs and requirements. Our goal is to develop a long-term, comfortable relationship between you, your family, and your new personal attendant.

We will continually strive to help you maintain the highest quality of life and independence.
